You're entirely right; subtitles are a functional thing, so they should fulfil their function properly before adding style. I think the font is fairly readable on this one, though.Still, though, this has been subbed, and if you have a good media player you can make it ignore the font and use a default one, so that's nice, at least.
Oh? I tried changing the font with VLC but it didn't want to do it. ._. VLC is unnecessarily complicated in some areas though, so I wouldn't be surprised if I missed the proper place to change the settings.
Also-Maybe it's something to do with my resolution, but I only find these subs to be fairly readable if I'm sitting right at my desk watching. I'll try poking around in VLC again, but I feel like it might be time to find a new video player that can handle subs and the like more easily.
EDIT: I tried again, but with hardcoded subs, I don't think I can do anything, regardless of media player. >< Am I missing something?

Yeah... good luck changing the font in a hardsubbed release.
In all seriousness, it cannot be done.
Anyway... I have DVD raws for 01-22, so if anyone happens to OCR the subs, you know where to find me.

I once saw a DVD release of this with English/Chinese/Malay translation and all 50 episodes in just 5 Discs, which is most probably a DVD R0/bootleg. I wonder if anyone owns the R2J discs, which is way too expensive for my wallet.

Does this end with the big reveal, or is that just the manga?

I have two things to say: Subs are fine, and this anime is Godly.

Well, hardcoded subs literally means the subs are baked into the video, so in that case there's absolutely nothing you can do.
As for ignoring the font... I used SMPlayer back then, which has this functionality built in. So does the Android-based player MX Player. I couldn't find the same functionality in VLC, which is too bad. Or maybe it can be set up but it might be more trouble than it's worth...
