I have to agree with the other poster who thought that this movie was dull.
I thought the pacing was quite flat and rushed....it felt like they had been going out for 1 or 2 days before the ending confession.

And maybe the subs were partially to blame, but the critical incident leading to the climax felt like it barely had weight, and then all of a sudden Densha is freaking out......I just got confused.

Of course I'm terribly biased in favour of the tv series, but I'm certain that if I saw the movie first I would still find it pretty boring.

The TV series makes the Densha Otoko story very intriguing and entertaining, whether or not it's even close to the true story.

i have windows media player classic but when i click on Load Subtitle it says:

To load subtitles you have change the video renderer type and reopen the file
-DirectShow: VMR7/VMR9 renderless or Haali's
-RealMedia: Special renderer for RealMedia, or open it through the DirectShow
-Quicktime: DX7 or DX9 renderer for QuickTime
-Shockwave: n/a

I hated the TV series. Densha's constant stuttering and bad acting totally ruined the experience. I couldn't help but to think that most animes do a better job at being more realistic, which is pretty ironic.

I do hope the movie is better, though.

Alright so I just saw this movie. Note that I have seen the series before. Well they aren't much comparable to each other. Entertainment wise the series did have a lot more impact whereas this movie came over more realistically in one way or another, although still too good to be true and too many coincidents happening in the story. This movie came over somewhat rushed. Understandable, the crew for the series did have much more time and probably a bigger budget too.

I can recommend this movie to anyone that has seen or liked Densha Otoko. For the sake of completion you definetly must have seen the last part of this movie. You'll be amazed, I mean wow! This can't be happening!!

edit: Oh and jagozon to answer your question, it wasn't a dream only a flashback of the scene that happened before during the story.

So, would you recommend watching the movie or the series first?

I ended up watching the movie first since it finished downloading first....I think the less than perfect subs contributed to the bad reviews..

It actually doesn't really matter what you watch first. Both stories are stand-alone. You might see them as alternative dimensions if you compare it to anime series.

The movie looks good! (just started) Nothing over the top like the TV series.
BTW, the Red Bandana head military Otaku is wearing a jacket with the 1st Cavalary Division unit patch on the left shoulder! Just my 2 cents.

Your summary sounds very prejudiced.
Starting for your first 6 words  :-/

Say what persons say, the series is great as it is  :-D
An exaggerated romantic comedy and as sign in every previous says:
That dorama is a "fiction" based on real events.
Not necessarily every scene could have happened in reality.

Your summary sounds very prejudiced.

Was only re-arranging the previous description, before it didn't even have that. I can't remember where I found the synopsis, but if you can provide a better one then be my guest. No-body else seemed to have a problem, but I get what you're saying.

Well... I didn't think the movie was bad maybe different from "normal" romantic movies. This movie is just sweet in its own kind of way. A man with no experience with human relationships sees himself in love but doen's know how to act. It's not very common (at least in the japanese romantic movies that I've seen) a strong female character in the ways of romance and a male character that seems lost and it has the most pure intections.

The end is kind of abrupt and not "flashy" but because of that turned out to be an unpredictable end.
