This one is absolutely not for everyone.... I feel if it is downloaded blindly, it will garner many unhappy consumers. This is largely due to the fact that Amano's art style is extraordinarily unique (but not always anime-newcomer friendly), and its largely dialogue-free/coherency-light plot line. Enjoyment of 1001 Nights requires the viewer to either dumbly enjoy the music and bombastic visuals, or to employ one's own brain to soak in the veiled imagery and colorful sound.
I disliked it, though. I enjoy the artistic, but prefer my media to be somewhat more structured. Also, after a while, between the constant visual contrasts and long strands of instrumental music...my head began to hurt quite badly.
I'd say to grab it if you are in the mood for something artistic, if you are a fan of Amano, or just like this sort of thing.

Just amazing, this is so avant garde for an anime, it actually reminds me much more of Western animation like Tale of Tales, The Dream of a Ridiculous Man, or as some people already pointed out, Fantasia. A whole range of animation styles are used including pencil, chalk, watercolor, cg and stop-motion all to a beautiful soundtrack performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra no less. This is probably the closest you'll ever get to truly seeing Yoshitaka Amano's art in motion, so if you're a fan of his this is a must. Also definitely watch this if you're a fan artsy short films or are open-minded towards unconventional forms of story telling. Do not, however, download this just because you're an anime fan or a fan of early Final Fantasy games, because it's definitely no aimed at the commercial crowd.
