It's true that honobono is going to restart the project soon (i'm their typesetter), but probably it will take at least a year, and maybe like 2 years, to complete it, and so something like this may be a good idea to enjoy the whole series now. Maybe I'll help seeding for a little while. The original is manga, basically the same story but more or less different from the anime version, like always. In this case both are good in their own way.

This series is pretty bad. I recently burned all my old cdrs(about 500-700 not sure) onto dvd-rs and this was one of the anime that didn't make the cut. I actually saw up to ep 48....I was crazy at the time....just so freaking corny. I think really little girls will like it though. Ah I pretty much downloaded anything back then lol.

So is this as "corny" as Marmalade Boy?  I watched 24 episodes of the aforementioned before skipping to the end, watching the last 4 episodes, and seeing the same lame plot "twisting" at the end as well.  Not saying that it was bad, but I wouldn't want to watch every single episode expecting as rich, original of a content as, say, Hana Yori Dango and feeling let down with the same Marmalade Boy corniness that makes you want to scream all the way back to the '60s.

The original manga was exclusively for girls. IIRC the author, Mizusawa Megumi, herself said "I was surprised to know that there are a few boys who read this." So if you're a boy, you must be at least non-stereotypical to like it.

About the anime version: according to Wikipedia, even fans are very unhappy about the 2nd half because of a lot of recaps. The anime version is also truly for girls, unlike recent so called girls' shows that are actually trying to make boys fans happy too with moe elements. OP/ED singers are even guys, very unusual.

The things they were trying to say through this story were actually 'new' in the anime history, and inspiring at least for teens girls. Like, even if you can use magic, something can't be solved and you can't change who you are. But admittedly HOW they said those things was melodramatic and some may understandably call it "corny" compared to todays oh-so-extraordinary oh-so-amazing shows.

Also, the original manga was, although I remember it with warm feelings, kind of a bad copy of Tokimeki Tonight. I'd almost call Hibino-san "Kamiya-san". HCR is with more serious messages, not just being fun, it's nice, but personally I enjoyed Tokimeki Tonight much more, like many other girls.

Yes it is...quite a lot. I also watched marmalade boy up to to 57 at the time. Not too much to watch back then. The moment I remember most was a minor character in the series where there is a horse and to get the horse to calm down(it has a broken leg) she broke her own leg and said ,"Now we both share the same injury." I couldn't help but laugh my butt off. I do like Marmalade Boy a tiny bit though....mainly cause the OSTS are awesome and if they aren't up on Boxtorrents they should be. New shoujo anime are so much better....and I can't help watching them.

I don't know if I'd be able to compare this with marmalade boy o.o If I had to compare it to anything I'd say Cardcaptor Sakura because of the age group and genre. But even then, they're two completely different things. Honestly while CCS has awesome characters, storyline, humor and is geared for a wider audience (guys and maybe even adults too)  HCR is very simplistic and not exactly extraordinary, but it was that simplicity which drew me into it. Predictable and corny, but still good (for me, not necessarily everyone).

I know people have been discussing it here, but it doesn't seem like there is an actual answer.  Is there anywhere I could get episodes 18 and onward in good quality with subs?  I'd hate to just get cut off at episode 18 or be forced to watch it in terrible quality from then on.  Can anyone help with this?

The file list for this is slightly outdated as Honobono has released through episode 23 at the moment. I'm not sure what the rules are for updating the torrent, but it might be worth looking into since the Tomodachi episodes are low quality due to the VHS sources.

Honobono now up to episode 32 so they have now crossed the halfway point, however it isn't the highest on their list of priorities as they aren't as big as they used to be and don't have as much human resource time as before.

Still, they'll get there eventually. Hopefully not as long as it took the other groups to sub Ashita no Nadja!

Isn't it time to switch out the torrent with an updated one? h-b got up to ep 35 done. Sure, its nowhere near finished, but that's 17 e[s that could get better quality.
