Thank you so much for this!
This was very helpful when I was editing the Swedish version with 720p video!
I searched for this version for many years (never seen it before) until I contacted a person who could record only the audio, then I got the idea to remaster it with HD video, so thanks again neo!
Seems to be really really rare! ^^
U dont got a Norwegian version !? I would love to see that version aswell!

I have made a 1080p... if anyone wants let me know... I do plan on re-cutting it again after i get my new PC built... I might be able to add a few of the cut scenes without too many issues.. but my current version is cut just for the 85 version.

Did you cut the scenes from the bluray release yourself and re-time them with the audio? Because if you did, sweet (kinda) I appreciate the amount of work that must have gone into it, but it won't be accepted here.
If not... It definitely won't be accepted here. Ever heard of the term "Upscale"?
Especially from a PSP encode... That must look horrible

I took the Bluray release and cut it up and re-timed everything
I did this project September 06, 2010
took me under 12hrs to do... i think 3-5 days of encoding... and i still think i could do better hence why im probably going to jump back on it as soon as i get my new machine built

Sounds... intriguing. I am not sure Miyazaki-san would be happy, though
It has a certain charm, watching it in a VHS rip quality, but having a new HD remaster of that forsaken cut feels just... wrong.
Give it a shot - you will find an interested audience, if not here on BBT, then on nyaa.

So delightfully awful. My friend loaned me his VHS copy of this a few years ago. thanks for this, I will treasure it. At the very least, it makes me appreciate what we have available to us now.

Ever see Sailor Moon DiC style? Imagine this like that, not neccesarily bad, but a lot was cut up and pasted everywhere to make their own story. As such, some scenes feel rushed, some feel a tad jerky and a fair amount of the dialogue has been edited heavily, Particularly names.
It's actually a pretty decent dub if you've never seen the original or the newer dub.

I will admit it was cut up a bit... but there were no re arranged scenes... also the new dubbing is shit... and as for the names... the setting seems more European not Japanese. so i guess the names could go or stay... the story to me is still very much in tacked the other issue is some minor back story with yappa/yuppa and of course they removed constant beating into ur head TOXIC JUNGLE GOOD NOT BAD.
also this film was first released for airlines and then i think 3-4 years later released on VHS yes the copyright on VHS says 85 but shown VHS release wasnt even released was way later...

If one did not see this version when they were under 10 years old and did not have any knowledge about the real Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, then it's quite palatable. I watched this when I was 8.
So for those getting into the Nausicaa world, I have some recommendations.
First, watch Warriors of the Wind, especially if you're American. The story is less focused on environment and much more character driven. It's easier to palate for Western audiences. The scene where Nausica and Asbel are under the sea of corruption shows this quite well. Nausica reminisces about the strange circumstances that brought she and Asbel together whereas the Japanese version has her reflecting on the state of the world and the sea of corruption's place in it.
Second, watch Nausicaa in the Valley of the Wind. The story is expanded upon, with the scenes about Nausicaa's past experiences with ohmu and the secret room.
Lastly, read the manga. Going through this sequence can one really understand how sadly the movies compare to the manga. In the freakin' manga, Nausicaa isn't captured by Kushana. Nausicaa goes to war out of duty and as the chieftan of her kingdom. The manga is great.
So for those who knock Warriors b/c it isn't Miyazaki's vision, I say Nausicaa in the Valley of the Wind movie isn't faithful to his true vision either. It's closer, but not there by any means. Reading the Watercolor impressions commentary, one learns that Nausicaa is a deep character with the weight of the world dragging her down. War, famine, orphaned children, and large scale destruction - through it all Nausicaa maintains her compassion and humanity.
For this character trait alone, I believe that Warriors' voice acting is MUCH better than the Disney version. I can't stand the uppity sugar sweet teenage voice that Disney chose for Nausicaa. Comparison of the fight scene where Nausicaa finds her father murdered shows the stark difference between Warriors and Disney's dubbing of Nausicaa. The Disney version sounds like poor hentai "ha... ha.... ha..." while Warriors has Nausicaa sound like a raging wildcat fighting with lethal intent.
I must always say there is merit in this version, if not only for the fact that New World Cinema took a chance and brought it to the US.

Thank you for a well-formulated review. When you put it into the manga perspective, then it makes a certain kind of sense.
However, disregarding the environmental aspect of the film is incorrect as it is one of the (in not the) main leitmotifs of Miyazaki's, which you see in almost all of his earlier and later works (Conan, Laputa, Mononoke, Totoro, Spirited Away, Howl, Ponyo, just to name a few). Toning it down i WoW was the greatest blunder. Additionally, what is the point of a character driven story, when you can get a strong image of what is driving them?

Technically it is English dubbed anime as our site motto goes. I prefer subbed anime though, so this is gonna be so good. Thanks for the upload, That'll teach them and their damned dubs
