For those of you who dislike seeing a classic release like this on a ratio site: don't forget BakaBT is still a public tracker, so it's not that difficult to download this from here without possible ratio restrictions...

Interesting concept.  Is it worth the 46 episode watch?  Do the kids cry and complain a lot?  Not a fan of crying kids.

Ginga Hyouryuu Vifam has my approval.

Subtitles are not too hot, but there is not much else to choose from.  People who like this kind of anime
should still be able to enjoy the show.

It has similarities to ZZ Gundam. And if you take the time to look at the screen shots you will see
that the cover art is really bad when compared to the actual art in the show.

I hope the OVAs and the sequel get uploaded. So far, it's interesting.

Aw man, that sucks. I just finished the series, and I immensely enjoyed it. This show is a classic, no doubt about it.

Takahashi directed it. The Layzner was designed by Kunio Okawara.

from what I heard the sequel, Vifam 13, didn't hold up to the original at all, and kind of was made out of popularity.  not that i wouldnt watch it if possible.

You're going to love it man, its character driven and the characters are fantastic. They all get along really, REALLY well, which is surprising but nice. There is plenty of humor and neat character interactions to see, as well as mecha battles every episode (gotta sell those toys).

until it is subbed in English you won't see vifam13 at this site.
you can get (DVDShrink re-encoded) DVD5s and watch it raw, or maybe find some share raws.
maybe there is even a bootleg with chingrish, but I haven't seen any.

first 2 ovas are recap only, ovas 3 is subbed now (and on bakabt i think), 4 is planned

Absolutely fantastic series. Despite its length it never struggles to keep my attention and it was impossible to put down which made my sleeping schedule an absolute mess. Fantastic characters, tense action and beautiful writing. I was immensely put off by the idea of a whole spaceship crewed only by kids but the show handles it amazingly well and discusses so many interesting and important themes and ideas in ways I think many series would've been afraid.

Get nothing but thumbs up from me.

This show is incredible. I can't believe i stomached seasons upon seasons of Tomino's awkward handling of the same themes this series does so naturally, honestly and beautifully. I personally place it above the likes of Gundam Z and SDF Macross. Truly a testament to popularity not being a sufficient indicator of the quality of a show.
Furthermore, unlike Gundam (and to an extent Macross), anyone can watch this show, as the themes are presented extremely clearly and focus on character interaction and development in face of adversity more than the mecha action, of which there is still a lot.
And as the most important point, the pacing of Vifam is near-flawless, especially considering it's' a 46 episodes show. I have never come close to finding another animated show that could keep itself fresh and relevant for so long, with constant action and plot development flawlessly occurring for dozens of episodes, only to switch to a different formula and pacing and continue again, without losing the viewer's attention.

It's only major flaw is probably the abuse of plot armor that the plot itself struggles to explain and results conspicuous compared to other space shows. This is however unavoidable and unsurprising, given the harsh war themes mixed with a cast of children. (Adults in the show do not suffer from this issue at all.)

I can't recommend this enough.
