Review by XSTREM; Thank you so much for the dual audio upload joseole! This review is based on the dub.
In this review, my focus is on the characters.
Tatsuya Ishihara, and Fumihiko Shimo has made another anime of one of Visual Art's Key's works. They've simply filmatised all Visual Art's / Key visual novels that are fairly popular in Japan. And I can only say: WELL FUCKING DONE Tatsuya Ishihara, and Fumihiko Shimo!
Best adaptation
This is their, hands down, best film adaptation to date (imo). There is Kanon that is also incredibly good - but had too much supernatural elements in it for my taste - but still an incredibly strong drama anime. Then they had their "down-period" as they tried to adapt "Air" - which was very poorly made compared to Kanon and Clannad.
The Characters
To me Clannad is a very powerful anime. The protagonist Tomoya Okazaki is talking to something inside me - I can identify 100% with the character, and I do not know if it's just me. I think the two storytellers have managed to portray Tomoya as a human character, and really stayed away from the traditional stereotypical male characters who flood the anime stories * cough * LoveHinaDearSGirlsBravo * cough * BUT he is like something out of Kanon - it's almost the same character just in a different setting! You can't quite say "Non-stereotypical characters" when it comes to the female characters - there we have the whole character registry, the stereotypical girls who could be taken from any other anime - well, you can almost compare them with the Rumbling Hearts girls (the timid and the strong one).
There is the ultra-cute girl here named Nagisa Furukawa, however she is not so stereo-typical as you might think. Or is she? In Clannad she is really cute - but still, she has inner conflicts about her self-esteem - and she evolves through the anime to believe more in herself and be strong, but with a sweet attitude. This I can only see as a strong message and a strong character identification to Japanese girls who is exactly in this dilemma because of the culture. But here Nagisa communicates that she can both be strong, yet sweet and feminine. Well done, I wish we had some of them here in Denmark where I live (and I guess in the Western societies in general). However, when I think about it, wasn't it the exact same, just in modified form, we saw in Rumbling Hearts for instance? And Saikano? Well, partly - but not really. All the girls are different, but with some of the same traits. I think it is a way, as said, to hit the Japanese female audicence. The female audience here in the West (who are not used to anime) are probably more like "what the fuck is happening to these girls?" because the girls here in the West do not have the same conflicts in themselves. I could write a bigger assignment about this concept if I was studying in Japan, because it's something that appeals to me and I find it very interesting - however, I won't bother you here in the moment of review.
If you are not familiar with Japanese visual novels, you would ponder about what the hell happens between the 23rd and 24th episode. It seems like the creators couldn't hold themselves back from adapting the "alternative ending" in this drama (in a Japanese visual novel there are numerous endings). I will not write a spoiler, but in my opinion the 24th episode is the best episode of them all - shame they couldn't hold the good "drama standard" throughout the entire anime - I actually got goosebumps when I watched eps. 24. However, it ends very abruptly and I got kicked out of Clannad's amazing world with one final kick. You sit there with the black screen in front of you, perhaps a little tear in your eye and is thinking: "Where the hell am I ?....... Ahhh, of course, this is reality ... damn." So strong is this anime.
In short
--Graphics & art: Completely recognizable Visual Art's / Key animation, and I like it. Very beautiful backgrounds!
--Voice acting (dub): Nothing to complain about - they all felt completely true and natural to the characters. Especially Tomoya's voice matched perfectly. There were perhaps some of the girls' voices that were a bit "silly" otherwise fine.
--Music/Sounds: Same OP and ED throughout all 24 episodes. OP and ED are okay, nothing huge - ED is incredibly cheesy / sweet! The In-movie sound track is EXCELLENT!
--- History: The "tension curve" is going up and down. There was, thumps up, very few "filler episodes", so you feel that the story moves forward most of the time! However, not perfect.
-- Characters: I could identify with the characters, which is mandatory for a good anime. Well done!
I can only recommend it - but after I watched the 2nd season (Clannad; After Story) I can only say; If you haven't watched Clannad. DO IT! And then watch Clannad: After Story! Then you've experienced the imo best animes ever made in history! (Please give me some recommendations, because I find most other animes pale in comparison to Clannad.)
Thanks for reading. Hope it helped to decide if you'd watch it or not. And again, thanks to joseole99!

Yay a dual-audio version I can use to replace my old one that has hardsubs. Yay!
For those that love this series, you should definitely check out After Story that continues the Clannad story, as well as Kanon, Air and Angel Beats!. Key is an amazing studio that has touched my heart so many times and has made me really fall in love with their art style. Oh and the Clannad movie is really good too, it tells the story a lot differently and has a different art style (and surprising has the same dub voice actors as the series, which I thought was kinda funny), but it is worth the watch. (should watch after this and AS)

I just downloaded this without properly reading the info.
"Categories: Comedy, Daily Life, Dating Sim, Harem, High School, Love Polygon, School Life, Seinen, Slapstick, Visual Novel"
Where's depressing as hell? I came close to crying at this anime :'-(
But still, it has to be one of the best shows I've ever watched.

The sequel is even more depressing, although I found season one to be more along the lines of emotionally moving not necessarily depressing. After Story is tragic and would have been my favorite anime of all time except for the utterly stupid ending. Ugh makes me mad just thinking how they ended it! The movie handled the ending sooo much better.

Anyone know if joseole99 was planning on creating a 1080p encode of this? I really want dual audio, and his encodes are great, and he already has After Story.

^ I'd like to know to before downloading this one. His 1080p AS with dual-audio is a masterpiece so I don't know why this one is only 720p. It's not a -huge- deal, just pokes at my OCD having the second season in higher quality than the first.
I'm happy it's getting easier to find dual-audio animes because watching subtitles with a group of people is tough. Being able to watch in Japanese by myself and in English with friends is very nice

Perhaps it is my speakers, but I found the japanese sound quality in Episode 9 to be a little bit fuzzy. Easily ignored, but still. Let me know if I'm wrong and I just need to get better speakers.
Other than that, you need to download and watch this, no matter what happens, even during the zombie apocalypse. When coupled with After Story, far and away the most touching anime/movie/story-telling-medium I have ever come upon. Best love story I have seen, hands down.
Thanks for the upload. You rock my socks off
