You can watch it on youtube at least.
Could you provide the link?

I think the extra ending starts at about 1:20 in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VaBkb4P6Exc and it continues in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZHjiDraOu4
I didn't watch the thing whole, that's where it seemed to deviate to me (well teh whole thing is a deviation, but...)

I used to have this on VHS taped from UK tv broadcasts (or maybe sci-fi channel) from *way* back... I recognise some of those screens, but not all. Anyone got any idea how shortened the TV broadcasts were, what was cut/missing? It probably correlates to a VHS dub, released at least a decade ago.

Man, this is old skool, but if I remember very nice looking for its age, if you can get past all the 80's hair... they really don't make 'em like this anymore.

EDIT - wikipedia just confuses me further. I've definitely seen part 3 in it's entirety, but most of parts 1+2 seemed strange to me. But I seem to remember some scenes, especially from part I. Maybe I just mixed it up with robotech, or did manga mix in some scenes to explain EDENs history into some version of part 3?

Sadly- wikipedia also tells me that ADV currently has the megazone 23 license....

As for ADV (they realeased a boxset in 2004), I must admit I haven't done any research into the licensing status and chose to depend on the fact that we already have two rips of the R1 upped here...

nevermind, false alarm... I just noted in the upload guidelines that the blacklisting applies only to:

» wiki
Anime released in 2007 and later, and licensed by Section23 Films (SXION 23, formerly known as ADV) for publishing

So you are clear there by some rather large margin!

Any chance for having it seeded on Nya?
Seems that it'll take some time to get approved here.  :-/

Hey OnDeed is it possible to sync the english audio onto the R2 dvds? I mean was there anything edited out in the R1?
Also have you tried to directly just mux them in and hope they sync?

If they do sync properly, it will allow to replace E-D rip, which, IMHO, is rather bad.

I'm not sure. I think I should give an explanation as to why didn't I attempt that.
Putting the additional size cost aside (and I think the video has already crashed through people's bitrate tolerance), the main problem is the generaly poor audio sync of the master.

In some places, the audio slowly gains delay, in some places, it gains and loses it in jumps... I tried to correct it a bit by delays and some custom timecodes munging for episode 1, but that was just a drop in the ocean... with episode 2, I chibi burned-out in the exploratory stage and just left it as is. The problem is, I have a hard time hearing the delay if it is less than about 250ms; working with visualisations didn't help me much either. In short, I had enough with that, especially after joining about 500 "subtitle / lines that were / like this" before that in Part I and II each (any further audio manipulation would throw off subtitle timing too). So I simply didn't feel like touching another audio at all.

(Moreover, I won't hide the fact, I don't like dubs very much.)

Them screenshots are beautiful; I've never seen anything so nice from the 80's.  I may get this just for eye candy.

Well, it was probably remastered in HD.

I 'm not sure about that, there were some chroma field mismatches and other telecine-related errors, even if the DVD is fully progressive and you can see a lot of dust, glue and such stuff, hehe. I suspect it isn't a new film transfer.

I mean, maybe it was remastered back in 2003, like Evangelion Renewal (which is, according to wikipedia, an HD remaster).

Funny, I was reading up on anime history and came across this. Tugged at my heartstrings. Haven't watched this in something like 15-20 years. I love this place!

You are welcome! While I've done modern anime for various reasons, hand-drawn oldies are where my heart is. Few more should come in the near future.

Robotech The Movie?
AFAIK it mixed up footage from the first part of this (including a custom-made extra ending - yes right) and Genesis Climber Mospaeda. It is on youtube for the lulz.

You said "Genesis Climber Mospaeda", but Robotech The Movie actually mixes Megazone 23 with Super Dimensional Cavalry Southern Cross.

Oh. I guess I remembered it incorrectly. I only saw few eps of Southern Cross (and I didn't recognise the footage). Mospaeda I didn't see at all, so that's why I was able to live in this lie :)

Not a bad anime, actually better than I thought would be. :-)
