Since a crappy scene release got accepted of this great movie, I thought I might as well offer this movie in quality it deserves: 1080p, done by an internal group (EbP) - it doesn't get better than this ;) It "only" has AAC audio (as opposed to the DTS the scene release has), but this is a rare case where I'd say it doesn't matter - the soundtrack is old and nothing is going change that.
If someone would like to compare this releases frame to frame, the frame numbers are in the screenshots.

PS: Description mostly copied from Takeshi's upload - hope it's ok :D

I wouldn't call SINNERS crappy release, at least it has better audio than this one
One more thing...
Just what do you mean by internal?
Is it Internal scene release or internal group on some p2p site(and for what site)?

Yeah buddy! More Yojimbo goodness! If anyone is considering watching this movie, then DO IT! Some of Kurosawas and Mifunes finest work.

It's an internal group from hdbits.org (best HD tracker, IMHO), so the quality is sure to be top notch. If someone would provide a sample from the SiNNERS release, I could compare these two releases, but it's common sense that an internal release trumps scene release.
As for the audio - yeah, technically, it is lower quality, but the audio is crap anyway, so why waste bits there?

In short and simple terms: internal >>>> scene, EbP >>>>>>>>>>>>> any scene release.

Why is that?

Why is that?

Because for a scene release, releasing as fast as possible is most important, so they use faster (lower quality) x264 settings, usually pretty generic and lower (then internal) bitrate (so it can be distributed faster), without testing how they work with that particular source. On the other hand, internal encodes emphasize quality over speed and in most trackers, when they become available, they replace the scene release. In particular, EbP is know for providing really well prepared encodes - they go to such lengths as to select frame ranges from different regions' BluRay sources as to achieve maximum quality (like with the recent Iron Man 2 encode - the German BluRay was overall better, but the CEE release had some segments that looked better so they combined both sources).
Please provide the respective frames from the SiNNERS release so we can compare :)

I wouldn't exactly call the 1080p scene release of this movie low quality. CiNEFiLE did the release and they used a video bitrate of 12.5 mbps, which isn't much lower then what EbP used. Although I will agree with you that this EbP release is better. Mainly because they bothered keeping the commentary track.

Also, the reason x264 settings are so generic on scene releases is because they are trying to be compatible with hardware x264 players. Compatibility is also the reason why the audio has to be either AC3, DTS or FLAC, and the releases have to be a file size that is a multiple of 2240 mb. You can see the rules here: https://rules.nukenet.info/t.html?id=2008_X264-2.nfo

Anyway, it isn't really fair to say that internal releases are always better then scene ones. If anything internal torrent site groups go overboard on things like video bitrate. They seem to always use crazy high bitrates like 15 mbps for 1080p, when the scene minimum video bitrate of 8 mbps is more then enough for most movies. Of course grainy old movies like Yojimbo are exceptions that do need a higher bitrate, but in those cases scene groups like CiNEFiLE will often use a higher bitrate. An x264 scene release of a movie will usually look fairly transparent with the source, without having an insanely bloated file size for a tiny quality difference.

Sure, it's not the quality of those 720p ~2GB movie encodes, but it's has visibly lower quality than the source - which matters to me and is quite visible when viewed on a 40-50'' TV (why else bother with 1080p?).

EbP's release (as most internals - the only one I know that does L5.0 encodes is CtrlHD) is High@L4.1 at most. So any hardware player worth its salt should be able to play it just fine. As for audio - is something "incompatible" used in the internals? Sure, this release uses AAC, but that's an exception from what I've seen - most use AC3 or DTS, some groups prefer DTS-HD MA (backward compatible with DTS), FLAC is almost never used (though, it's usually available as a separate torrent).
About the filesize thing - that's a limitation IMHO. The HDDs are cheaper than ever and who burning 8GB movie to a DVD is a PITA (been there, done that ;)).

Crazy high? The BluRay (for Yojimbo) uses 34.99 Mb/s of video bitrate and you think 15Mb/s is crazy high for a near transparent encode? Sure, like you said, it's a very grainy source. But let's not forget that we are compressing from VC-1 or AVC, not MPEG2, so don't expect that you'll get a transparent encode at half the size (again, depends on the movie).

I'm definitely biased - I've seen too many scene releases that looked horrible to change my mind about them (although, I'll admit that there might be some good scene releases out there, just like there are good speedsubbing groups in the fansubbing world :)), but with internals, you are pretty much sure that the encode is very close to the source, if not transparent.

PS: I was basing my previous statements that the scene release of Yojimbo sucks based on the 720p SiNNERS release, that uses a measly 4 Mb/s for this grainy source. The  CiNEFiLE release you mentioned looks more promising with 12.5 Mb/s, but let's not forget that bitrate is not everything. Assuming they didn't filter the video, x264 settings could play a large role in preserving the details/grain in this type of source (subme 10, trellis 2, psy_rd comes to mind - all settings that impact the quality at the expense of encoding speed - but not compatibility) .

Well the all time classic top rated Samurai movie is Seven Samurai which is actually on BakaBT. There's also the sequel to Seven Samurai,  Sanjuro. Rashomon and The Hidden Fortress are some other Kurosawa movies with Mifune. A couple other good classic Samurai movies are Harakiri, Ran, Kagemusha, Zatoichi (yes all 26 movies are amazing, he's like the Samurai James Bond), Sword of Doom and Lone Wolf and Cub...just to name a few.

If you want more recommendations just let me know. I'm a huge collector of classic Samurai movies.  ;-)

I think you meant to say that Sanjuro is a sequel to Yojimbo and not Seven Samurai. BTW, have you seen Samurai Fiction? If you have, Is it any good?

Next time You will be creating torrent please consider using more appropriate piece size. That is to not exceed 1000 pieces and also to ensure interoperability do not use piece size higher than 4MB. Thanks.

Good movie.  ;-)

It's a nice movie for samurai fans, not for those who expect this to be a fast paced, bloody action movie.
