There's a 720p version released by the same group on tokyotosho (am I allowed to say that?), which is slighlty smaller overall.

I wonder if there's any chance of these bluray verisons being released overseas?

It'll probably be offered here shortly.

I've been having some problems watching this. For one thing, sometimes Media Player Classic closes out only a few seconds into the video. Also, these things which I can best describe as square particles keep shimmering across the picture, as if there's something wrong with the video source. It's the same sort of problem I experience if I'm watching a DVD that is damaged or scratched. This happens on both of the BluRay versions that were uploaded to this website.

Since I'm currently using Combined Community Codec Pack, which codec should I replace it with?

Newest cccp? Or ffdshow.

This was like watching the Police Academy on steroids with addition of robots
Patlabor OVA mixes genres in every episode going from action/thriller to comedy and supernatural/sci-fi.
This was very funny and amusing to watch !

I suggest coreavc + ffdshow for most everything.  maybe some other minor codec installs may be needed.
you could also try shark007's codec packs if you like codec packs.  cccp and he are both based mostly on ffdshow tryouts, but shark is much more up to date than cccp, and he offers x64 codecs, too.  if you use coreavc with this setup you should be good.

plus sometimes codecs need re-registered.  it may be as simple as that.
uninstall them and MPC-HC.  reinstall.

it seems unlikely, unfortunately.
Bandai likes to charge big bucks for their BluRays, and they have even tried to use Jpn pricing in the US market -- which kinda failed even before the economy did, now they are just recently (since these released) starting to sell things a bit cheaper; for the US they focused on the 2 most popular from the franchise, movies 1 & 2, which got dual audio/subs, and is available a bit in the US.  the 3rd movie is available subbed, but must be ordered from Japan (yesasia, cdjapan, etc), and in this instance if you need subs, you can't even get a cheaper retail TW BD (less than 1/3 the Jpn BD at yesasia), as the Jpn disc is the only 1 with Eng subs.   The OVAs and TV box sets have no English whatsoever.  which is too bad (especially for the OVAs, which to me, were as good as the first 2 movies).

To get these on BD, with subs, It basically comes down to finding people who will customize the Jpn BDs.  For BDs, the number of folks who know how to do this is slim )unlike DVDs), partly due to needing to know Scenarist BD if you want to do it correctly (ie not overflow the 4 MB sub buffer, which pretty much all the freetools at doom9 do, and all the English guides on the internet that call for all these freetools also do this... end result is flickering subs)
Much as I want to learn subbing BDs, it takes about 200 GB or more per disc for workspace and then there is the learning of Scenarist, which is an unintuitive mess.
For now< i would just look for the best BD rips with subs (& dubs) you can find for the OVAs and TV.
or if you really want untouched BD quality without the hair loss n' headache of learning scenarist BD, grab the Jpn discs and make mkv remuxes with tsmuxer (or makemkv) and add the subs (and dub) from this.   may require some minor tweaking/shifting, but GP have likely done most of the heavy lifting as far as timing, etc.

Can anyone recommend a codec to get the Japanese FLAC audio to play in DivX?

Alternatively, can anyone account for why the subtitles wouldn't show up when I play this in Windows Media Player?  I have both CoreAVC and ffdshow installed.

EDIT: Nevermind, VLC was able to play everything correctly.
