Thanks a bunch neo I was thinking of starting this classic by watching the first season to see what Miyazaki and Isao managed to pull on this one, and all your hard work seems to make it even easier for me. :)

PS: I really love it that you made both an 720p and 1080p release. More people should follow your example instead of flooding our disks with having "just" 1080p overthetop releases on many anime. It's a waste.

I agree completely.

Now, you put me into an awkward situation, complimenting me for something that I recently decided to stop doing.

Basically, I now only make encodes in 480p and 1080p, and encode a 720p version only in the case when the source quality/detail does not warrant 1080p. As I see it, 720p made sense 3-5 years ago, when many devices were not powerful enough or had high enough resolution to play 1080p. Storage space has also become progressively cheaper, with 3TB drives having ridiculously low prices. With such devices being fewer and fewer, those who still need low-res encode, can go for 480p, while the rest can be dragged up to 1080p (hey, 4K-only releases will be common in a few years :)) Also, making an additional encode takes additional time and effort...

Convince me that I am wrong, preferably with some statistics and numbers.

This is important, as I am currently working on version 2 of this series, which will address the issue og grain only in the moving areas, will be encoded in 10-bit and will have new subtitles. I am currently only encoding 480p and 1080p streams, but it's not yet too late to convince me to add 720p to the workflow.

I'd like to watch this series. Should I hold out for the new version 2 or should I just get the current release?
(I.e. do you think the improvements are worth waiting around another week/month/quarter/whatever?)

The improvements are worth waiting, both the subs and video. ETA: ~1.5 months.

If you want to be convinced by numbers, then look at the download statistics of this offer in version A, B and C. 1080p has been downloaded 2075 times, 720p 1932 times and 480p 1517 times. From that you can tell that almost equally many prefer 1080p and 720p, and fewer prefer 480p. From that you should boycott 480p.

I personally like to watch anime in 720p, as I like to watch quality releases, but simply don't have the resources to store 1080p releases. Seriously, even with a 3TB storage (I have 2TB dedicated to manga/anime ATM and 2TB for backup and uni), you'd only be able to store  around 150 series or movies if you went for the 1080p releases, and terabyte storage might have become cheaper, but it's still expensive! ...But I'd die before I'd watch an anime in 480p.

It should download out of the box. You can ask the question on the forums, where you much more likely to get help.

How can I set it up where I got notification when Ver. 2 drops for this?  I'm waiting on that.
