I'll do my own comparison on this one. Thanks for a 10 bit version of one of the best series ever. I'm getting this at nyaa and may seed here if necessary.

It's nice to see a 10-bit encode on Boogiepop Phantom.
Thanks!
Thanks!

@Stargazemg: If would post your comparison results here
@jackoneill: Whoops sorry, fixed
A little clarification: 10-bit is nice and all, but the factor that really makes this better than the other available rips is that this uses R3 DVDs as opposed to other rips that use R1 DVDs. The R3 DVDs have their own problems (and a lot of em), but still miles better than the R1 DVDs. Too bad I can't find the R2 DVDs anywhere.

Well, I don't wish to provide screenshots, so please just take my word for this....the video quality is better than the V-A version I have. The audio is definitely better and I like the larger font size on the subs. One thing about this series, is that I recall reading that the video was purposely a little fuzzy to add more mystery to the series. Of course video quality was never great in the early days of anime, but in 2000, it could have been much better. I think this series is fine with the video it has with this release. If accepted, I will seed, so RedSuisei, please send me a message when this get on here. Thanks for the offer.

In hopes that giving comparison would make this accepted faster, I made a screenshot comparison with 4 releases: BSEnc, Psychlo Anime, SSP-Corp, and Vision-Anime. Since I'm comparing 4 releases, I decided to just make a .zip instead.
Some comments of why the others are inferior:
Psychlo-Anime: 512x384 Divx3 @683kbps? Somehow though this release managed to keep more details than V-A and SSP-Corp (in fact I will say it's detail retention is almost at the same level as BSEnc), but at the cost having tons more blocking than the rest. The blocking is not really visible in original resolution, but once you played it and went fullscreen you'd see them everywhere.
Vision-Anime: Ghosting. Everywhere. And detail retention is also the worse. Somewhat less blocky than the others, but still blocky.
SSP-Corp: IMO this should be uploaded for D-A slot. At the very least, it doesn't have V-A's terrible ghosting. But detail retention is below P-A's Divx3 release (which left really wondering what were SSP-Corp's encoder doing).
Other things to note about my release: The subtitles are completely re-timed, with line linking and scene timing. Also most on screen texts that I managed to find a translation for are typeset, a few are just simple \an8. I also did a few TLC on the subs since I noticed a few lines are just plain wrong.

Then why don't you add that info to the description? I first assumed it was a rip of the R1, so I almost passed on it.

Torrent filename:
- [BakaBT.164239v0] [BSEnc] Boogiepop Phantom (R3 DVD 10-bit AC3).torrent
Directory the torrent downloads into:
- [BSEnc] Boogiepop Phantom (R3 DVD 10-bit AC3)
Filename convention:
- [BSEnc] Boogiepop Phantom 06 (R3 DVD 10-bit AC3)v2.mkv
Agreed, though, for someone quickly skimming only the description, a single line in the File Info section between Audio & Subtitles could read:
Source: Region 3 DVD
I wish that were a required convention around here so it would be easier to spot TV vs. DVD vs. bluray encodes, as well as region releases.
All that said, I started re-watching this in the middle of the night. Been a few years since I traded for a copy of the A-V release. Very nice upgrade! Arigatou! I'd forgotten just how awesome the soundtrack is. This 10-bit encode plays very nicely on my old 3.4 GHz P4, very luscious.
The spooky mood on this is just as captivating as when I first discovered it with my anime club nearly a decade ago.

Can we get a 10-bit with R1 English dub muxed/synced please?

There is a forum:
» BakaBT » Uploaders' Forum » New Torrent Requests
A request there has much higher visibility among all the potential uploaders. I personally am not interested in a dub, but it's pretty clear that many other people might be.

If this doesn't have the visual artifacts the other versions have, then all you need to do is rip the audio track from the english version and encode it into this one, right?

2. The R1 DVD syncs very differently from the R3, meaning that the audio also syncs differently.
Of course I wouldn't waste my time to get the R1 DVDs then resync them myself, in the first place I don't even need the English audio since I don't watch dubbed. If you want, you should do it yourself or find someone who's willing to.

January 6th 2012 (4 months and 11 days)Tbh I don't really feel like doing any screenshot comparison because I don't have neither the P-A and the V-A version. I got SSP-Corp's though (which IMO should replace V-A's for dual-audio slot), but I don't currently have access for it. Just take my word that this is much better than any rips available so far. Not perfect, but still the best currently.
As usual, you can get this from Nyaa #273715 to help me seed once this is approved, or you can also get this via DDLs on my site (thanks to Zainian for the DDLs!)
