It's not often the case with older animes.
Surely you jest.
Almost all old anime worth watching has gotten the blu-ray treatment.

it wasn't about whether it was a good show, rather more a question of quality.

But only good shows get the treatment
Because a lot of people want them
So the companies will get a lot of money

Soooooooo..I've got this on DVD for like 10 years or such. Is it worth it getting the Bluray? It's not often the case with older animes.

The DVD I have has already good quality (German UFA anime release), but the BD is still better, and as Krudda has already said, the Ghibli BDs are worth it.
BTW, I hope it doesn't take 5 years for the Mononke Hime BD to be released, since MH is the Ghibli movie I am least happy with the DVD release I own.

The Studio Ghibli blurays are amazing. 'The Borrower Arrietty' is a particularly amazing film watched in Bluray, and one of the more recent ones that has been done. I'd get as many as you can afford if you know what I mean. The quality is amazing.

Arietty is from 2010 though. With newer animes, it's always worth getting the bluray  :-P
Just had a few bummers.

Ghibli blurays are region-free and have lots of dubs and subs, so just import them from Japan.

as Neo said Ghibli blurays are region-free and UK bluray is Region B but I would not recommend it since they removed grain totally
but still importing is expensive (at least for me)

You have lots of anime in Bluray region B
you can check here http://www.amazon.co.uk/ , http://www.mangauk.com/ and here http://www.studiocanal.co.uk/

(Ghibli blurays are on studiocanal web)

If you don't want to import however, yes this is available in a region B format.
And revo, I believe Turkish1 was referring to "compared to America" Because America (Region A) gets 3 times as much anime as region B.

Can you give reference? Aren't the regional Ghibli BD releases identical to the Japanese ones in regard to video?
I have Nausicaa, Laputa and Arrietty on BD and will get Howl soon.

Nope, each individual release gets it's own encoding. Here in Australia for instance, "Madman Entertainment" encodes all our DVD/Blurays
