I offer this since its been quite some time since groups released any 720p of it. One might as well think there wont be 720p subbed encodes anymore... And this one even tho the only 720p subbed version was quite hard to get.

I looked in the uploader's forum but didnt find anything about 720p. I also didnt see it being rejected nor does it look like an upscale and uses THORA's script it seems - and thora is accepted. I like to remind once more that this is the only BD, 720p version with english subs. Hoping to have it accepted :)

All things aside imho it looks like a damn decent encode, what do you all think?

I've got a downscaled BD from THORA by Daman4life (popular anime encoder for TPB, KAT, Demonoid), if you want to toss it up for comparison, his has a higher video bitrate along with dual audio. The filzesize is 2.83gb.
PM me if you want to compare.

Info:
NOTE: I am taking these screenshots with VLC, if you are using MPC with MADVR, I recommend using VLC to take screenshots, people have different configurations on MPC+MADVR, so we should take each of our screenshots from the same player (please use VLC, I don't want to figue MPC+MADVR right now, and it would be too much trouble)
Here is one comparison with Daman's encode, hint: Look at bottom of screen: http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/141832

Info:

Since you have the file id would be infinitely easier for you to do a comparison since screenshots are here. All you need to do is take do screenshots and use http://comparescreenshots.slicx.com/. I on the other hand would have to download the whole file. To make your life ultra easy ill give you timestamps:
1. 00.02.11
2. 00.23.34
3. 00.33.11
4. 00.54.29
5. 00.17.25

Oh and one offer does not exclude the other since single audio and dual audio can coexist as they are different slots.

I use CCCP and VLC is shit imho. Its my last resort, testing environment since its secluded from the rest of filters/codecs. Right now i havent got it installed even...
Oh and here are the details if someone would like to compare with this Daman4life guy

Admittedly VLC used to be awful, but with the 2.02 release, they really got things right.
Here are the 5 screenshots, thank you for providing the times
Screenshotcomparison doesn't seem to be working for me right now, I tried 4 times :-(
Here they are though

You're welcome :)
It also sometimes wont work for me - everything seems to be ok but at the end i get just the mainpage. Seems they cant handle too many large (~900kb) files. My solution is to divide the comparison into 2 parts like this.
Comparison [Rising Sun] vs [Daman4life]: part 1 - part 2
PS i suggest using http://psydk.org/PngOptimizer. it does miracles sometimes... from your 1.2 MB screen it made 900 KB without any loss on quality. It was exactly 31% size reduction.

VLC is shit for screenshots. It might be swscale'sfault, but still. MPlayer2 also uses swscale, but at least it has a pending patch that fixes the horrible chroma upsampling swscale has. However, on top of that, swscale assumes wrong (mpeg1) chroma sample placement which results in a a chroma shift in the screenshots anyway.

If there is any screenshot method I can recommend, it is grab in ffdshow. It has proper chroma upsampling (as well as bt709/bt601 detection) and if you are shooting 10-bit video, it converts straight from 10-bit yuv to rgb24. As a bonus, it includes frame number in the filename, so you can use that to match frames from different releases.

That makes me think that kye7's "downscaled BD" is a reencode of Thora's 1080p release. Naturally, reencodes of that sort are not allowed.

On the other hand, it could be from muxing some 720p bluray rip with audio and subtitles from Thora's 1080p...

Yes, they are THORA subs
And Daman4life, (search for him on KAT, TPB, and demonoid) does not do reencodes as far as I know.

Bah, I don't even know why I posted.
This IS a single-audio release, so comparisons shouldn't even matter.

Maybe I'll offer it.
You guys think I should offer it?

Don't be cheeky, you don't know what was being considered behind the scenes.

Its Ghibli... what can go wrong with it? I for one liked it, original as any of this studio's productions imho. Intersting, refreshing, realistic, serious, deep etc. All in all a good watch if you ask me.
