Rats, I was hoping this would be one of the TV-fansub versions like Rice-Box or AnimeHaven. Out of curiosity, what's the source for the subtitles in this release? R1? Different fansub group? Anime.fin themselves?

Glad I didn't get rid of this from my HD a month ago.  Since no one appears to be seeding yet, I'll do so. Enjoy.

Edit: I spoke too soon. 2 others are on it. :D

This is the version I archived a while back, as it has better video quality than A4E's version IMO.

I have no idea what anime.fin used for their scripts, but I think that it's their TL (having not watched any of it).  This is all I could find aside from the official-sub versions.

out of curiosity, what makes this any different from either of the other 2 DVD-rips, other that what group did it, and the torrent's age? they're all 640x480 dual-audio xvid/vorbis OGGs.

In my opinion, A4E's version is much better. First of all, it defeats the purpose if a DVD-Rip is single audio. Isn't the whole point of DVD-Rips to be a substitute to the official DVDs? If I want single audio anime, I might as well just stick to the fansubs. It's always nice to have both tracks for collectors, or simply for those who want to rewatch the anime in english for a different experience. Even though most dubs suck, you'd be surprised at how many people like them (Mostly people who mainly watch anime on TV) and although rare, some english dubs are actually pretty good. Or sometimes it's actually fun to watch them for a good laugh.

Also, OGM is an old outdated format no longer used nowadays now that MKV exists. Which makes me wonder how old this version is. There is also very little difference in video quality from the other DVD-Rips available.

There is pretty much no reason to replace your A4E/Anime-MX/LIME/usotsuki/Anime-Xtreme version for this one.

question: How come "we" chosed this rip, did those anime.fin guys had better subs than AnY-Conclave, and isn't quality less better than AnY-Conclave's?

just curious..

You're referring to the 2nd series. This is the first series from years ago.

The point of a DVD-rip is to get better video quality than a TV-rip.  If you're using an R2 DVD, then there is no English audio track.

I will generally watch English dubs if they're available.

The show aired in 2003, and anime.fin finished releasing it in 2004.

To answer both of these, I believe these aren't just the official DVD subtitles.  I can't say for sure, however, since I haven't watched *any* releases of this series, including this one.

Video quality may indeed be half of the reason for getting a DVD-Rip. Of course, DVD quality is always superior to TV quality (Considering the DVD-Rip is encoded properly, that is). However, the other half of the reason for getting DVD-Rips is for the english dub and official subs. Therefore, it would be logical for every DVD-Rip to contain both audios if they are available in the official DVDs.

I see, that would make sense then. If these aren't the official DVD subtitles, perhaps they want to use this version as the "subbed" version. That would be a wise decision, since this is probably the "fansub" of this anime with the best video quality. Now that you mention it, I believe anime.fin does both fansubs and DVD-Rips.

Not really, there are a few sad parts, but overall it's a laidback/heartwarming/"magical realist" kind of series.

Speaking of the various releases of this series on Box, it might be worth replacing Anime-Xtreme's version with a newer release. I'd suggest LIME's, but it's imagesub and I know how popular those are around here. So Anime-MX would be a good alternative.

I think SNS has released the R2J version.  I would like to see someone post that version to replace my A4E version..  As someone said there is no point to replace a4e with anime_fin version.

Edited: I find the torrent for SNS version, but as usual, there are no seed :(

Edited 2: Here is the spec for the SNS version:
source: R2J dvd
resolution: 640x480
video codec: h264
audio codec: vorbis
audio languages: japanese
subtitles: english (ass, srt)

If AH's release is better than this one, we can go ahead and swap them.  Either send me the torrent file, and I'll swap, or offer it up and this one'll be deleted.

u know, the font isn't that bad in this version.  there is some variation on the script though.

Hard to decide which one to keep.  I really like the subtitles in the AH version which is why i kept that but this one isn't a generic retail subtitle either.   One thing i find kinda odd though is the translator credit in this one... babelfish.altavista.com...  Seems kinda odd that would be listed in there.

The vid quality is definetly better in this one though.  I'll probably give it some thought which one to keep.

P.S.  you guys are crushing my net connection, all the seeders on this torrent.. geez!
