LOL! My bad. I don't much see many black people as main characters in anime. So it's some joint project like Blood: The Last Vampire then? Made in Japan, but made for an American audience? I can't imagine Afro Samurai receiving much popularity in Japan. Ah well, I'm still optimistic of an Avatar Z anime, rofl...Just realized your avatar, angry black guy much?
You know, not many animes actually have white main characters either, just the manga artstyle happens to make japanese people resemble what people associate with white people(Fair skin, light eyes, and pointy noses). This is because amongst japanese people, these attributes are considered to be beautiful, and many japanese women like wearing contact lenses and dying their hair, not so they look white, but so they look more diverse. This is for Asian cultrural reasons which have nothing to do with White caucasians. Do some research. Race aside, think how boring anime would look, if they all had brown hair and brown eyes. I mean, lots of anime characters have purple and red eyes, because it looks pretty and cool, not becasuse the japanese want to be or look white(name a white person with purple eyes??), and not as an insult against black people, just black people have the same lack of diverse eye and hair colour that they do, and have dark skin and Afro hair, so very few of the characters coincidentally look black.
Code geass is an example of an anime which has a white main character, and that displays white Americans in a really glorified light dosent it?
Lelouch and his helpers are the only britanian characters which are portrayed as likeable or inteligent because they hate Britania. Why dont you self obsessed people actually go to Japan, and realise how much they all love you for being white, rather than sitting watching cartoons all day because you cant make friends with respected members of your english speaking commuinties.P.S thats not a dig at everyone who watches Anime, i love Anime, its a dig at self obsessed ignorant delusional Japan loving Weaboos, who have to feel loved by cartoons because no real people do.

An american parody? Blind by any chance? how could americans pull of that type of artwork so well. Comparing it to powerpuff girls? Are you retarded by any chance, im not trying to be rude just asking a question, want a genuine answerWell that's a pretty ignorant/dumb thing to say. Artist's nationality has nothing to do with the quality of his work.

There aren't any dedicated american Anime companies, because there aren't enough profesional artists in America which are skilled at drawing the manga artstyle in an anime format, at the moment. As i have done reasearch, and therefore Am less ignorant on the topic than Rumor i know that There are only a couple American made animes, Avatar being one, and the artsyle is not hardcore manga like afro samurai, it is slightly americanised. I worded the point you retorded against slightly too bluntly as i do too beleive that americans could, and based on amateur artwork are capable of drawing manga artwork very well, just i know to this date that it isnt an industry that has taken off in the US, so it seems pretty 'ignorant' not to know this. The contempt in my response was targeted more at likeining afro samurai to powerpuff girls, and calling it a parody which i still think is pretty stupid.
By the way, whats with the Illuminati symbol?

There aren't any anime companies in america because it's cheaper to outsource the animation to Japan or Korea. Your example of Avatar being an american made anime is false. The storyboarding, script, character design etc is done in america but the actual ANIMATION was outsourced. Same goes for other american shows like X-men evolution, and boondocks.
So essentially the question is what do you mean by anime? Is it still anime if the animation is done in korea? A lot of japanese shows are actually having the animation done in Korea. If the style is animeish then does that make it an anime to you? Not to mention what is an american cartoon? Is an american cartoon still american if the actual animation is done in japan or korea?

If the style is animeish then does that make it an anime to you? Not to mention what is an american cartoon? Is an american cartoon still american if the actual animation is done in japan or korea?Personally, I define what is or isn't an anime based mostly on the story, though it is also an art-style to me. I know it's still a cartoon, but from most of what I've seen, the way of telling the story, as well as some of what's actually done in terms of humor etc. makes the difference. For instance the eternal "nosebleed" joke, which of course comes from an old wives tale of how virgins are prone to nosebleeds due to bloodpressure (or something akin to that, it's been quite a while since I heard it). Also, just the general cultural things tend to shine through.
This may not always be the case, but... think about it this way: Doctor Who in the past couple of Doctors has been Americanizing itself, because the BBC want it to become more popupar in America, because America is just a bigger country, which means more potential viewers. but the "normal" type of british TV usually doesn't jive well compared to what americans are used to. Try watching some classic Who and compare it to new Who - you'll spot a fair few differences in storytelling, solutions, all that jazz. And personally, I'm against it. I'm probably one of the few who are afraid that the show will get a bigger budget, because I know it'll likely be used to make the show more "american-friendly", because British and American humor etc. aren't always the same. And to me, that means losing a lot of what I like in the show.
Sorry, bit of a tangent there... but anyway, I base what's anime and what isn't more so on storytelling and such aspects than artstyle, but I think they're what makes it anime, not a cartoon. Where it's made or who made it, not so much. Though, of course, cultural references are changed when the show is sent from one part of the world to another. A decent example of this is YuYu Hakusho from japanese to american. Same to a certain degree with for instance the games in the Final Fantasy series. Alot of things aren't properly carried over from one version to the other. I'm not familiar with any shows (that I actually enjoyed, anyway) that came FROM America TO Japan, more so the other way around, so I can't say alot about that... oh well. Just my 2 cents there.

Thanks for this! It'll be great to see what the manga was like after having seen the anime.
