It is a DVD of (I think) French origin. The German sound, which I included here is of very good quality.

I'm quite surprised if this comes from a French source, these old shows are pretty rare here ... Still that's the only explanation for the French audio track.
Thanks for the work Neo !

You underestimate the French anime distribution industry: both Chie the Brat and Horus were first available in France.

"The Russian dub seems to be very close to the original Japanese song lyrics, which the English dub is a complete reinvention of the song texts."
Change "which" to "while"
Edit: Thanks for all your work on older stuff. Older animes don't tend to get the attention or treatment they deserve. Also, I'm sure people who don't have English as a first language are greatly appreciative of your multi-language release efforts.

Neo1024 and animestudz - once again, thanks for lovingly piecing together an old classic from various sources to make the best possible release.

At least I could see it on satellite TV.The 1962 Soyuzmultfilm version is available on DVD, so it may be confusing.

You underestimate the French anime distribution industry: both Chie the Brat and Horus were first available in France.Being French myself I'm used to bad dubs and late releases (high prices too on DVDs). It's coming to a point where more and more content is available but back in the days you needed to take a credit to buy some stuff (not kidding).

I remember watching this as a child, although I don't recall the plot or anything (I have the memory of a goldfish) I do remember it crushing my spirit and leaving me drowning in my tears...

Thanks Al_Sleeper, but I meant with English subtitles.
i have it in Greek dub which is my native language, but I'd prefer the original japanese audio with English subtitles to understand.

Actually the DVD is of Portuguese origin (link). Major thanks to the guys at OF for providing it to me.
@jokli: If by chance you do get it and notice that it's better (which is quite easy for it to be considering the quality on this disk), please upload it somewhere so we can get a better quality version of this. Thanks.
