Watch one episode of this and I have to say it was a bit awkward. I have watched many live action shows and they all tend to be the same: corny dialogue and mind blowing ridiculous action sequences.  Why? Because it funny to see a live action version of some of your favorite anime *cough* Sailor Moon *cough*

If I wanted to see a decent Japanese live action series, with ridiculously cool costumes and over-the-top acting, I would watch Garo instead.

I heard Mokona would be too expensive, but even so I still look forward to seeing it.

I anticipate the new manga even more, tho.  ;-)

It's the Black one on xxxHOLiC, the White is in Tsubasa.

There is no Mokona in this adaption. It's a good thing because the cgi would just look awful in the environment this has.
While this version's Himawari has had a bit of a poor reception, she does get better as the series gets deeper (spoilers).

Subtitles has been adjusted to get rid of the unnecessary line combining and fix a few mistakes that I remembered.

This must be amongst the least likely things in the manga/anime world to get a live action adaptation?!
I've not even got as far as transitioning from the manga to the anime yet  :-P
But I'm not sure I'll be able to dare to watch this...

ok, this is ... unexpected.  and probably a total train wreck, but i must watch it, just to see what they made of it.  jumping on the swarm with seedbox will at least help distribute it quickly.   ;-)

I watched until episode 4; overall impression - disappointment. I wasn't expecting it to live up to the atmosphere the manga projects, but I agree with another user ... it was awkward. Yuuko was only portrayed as a cool, simmering type and you didn't get any of her happy-go-lucky drunkard bits. (Though the actress had her looks spot on.) Watanuki was serious, which is fine if you're going for the realistic teenage boy approach, but you rarely get his antagonistic whip lash reaction to Doumeki's presence or his eye roll inducing fawning over Himawari. Doumeki was wooden and boring. Himawari lacked loyalty and charm. IDK. I tried it. Wasn't the worst, but did not hold my interest, even looking at as a stand-alone series. Maybe if they had delved more into the more capturing arcs - like the hydrangea bush bit.

Well if I knew our subs (I run Vulcan 300 Fansubs) were going to get upped here I would have edited the subs for the  first couple of episodes and fixed some of sub layout.  If the poster wants to do a swap with fixed subs let me know.  The last 4 episodes were better than the first for episodes as they were part of one story.  The episodes themselves were too short to do much with a single story, so the first 4 episodes as stand alone stories didn't work as well.

The narrative style of xxxHOLiC as a manga and animé relied on too many elements that are impractical to reproduce in this format. Live-Action Dramas typically focus on specific scenes longer and try to tell a story purely through direct character interaction and dialogue whereas a manga/animé can more readily show a greater variety of images to set up a scene/action/narrative/flashback/internal monologue and can also more easily exceed the boundaries of reality through seamless integration of supernatural elements. Frankly, I've no confidence that it could so much resemble the other media as borrow some names. This wasn't a strong candidate for adaptation. Nonetheless, I'll probably have a gander.

Edit: I should have been more specific so as to state this was a weaker candidate as opposed to, say, Nodame Cantabile, GTO, Otomen, Arakawa Under the Bridge, and so on, as the integral comedic elements rely on cartoon humour and the supernatural elements are pervasive and highly stylized

I would agree to that. I did not read the manga, but I have watched the anime, and the anime does have some serious tones combined with some cute humor. Which I liked about the series. It is almost the same as Mushi-Shi, but that was more on a serious-philosophical tone of story telling. Watunuki and Mokona have a comedic relationship throughout the anime, along with Yuko and her comedic presence. However, watching one episode of this and it was not funny, it was not very entertaining, it was more serious, and the human acting was a bit awkward with this series.  :-/
The live action of Detective Conan was more comedic, though they could not follow the plot like in the anime/manga, but have to view it as if Shinichi Kudo never shrunk. This is almost the same, but it did not follow on what I have hoped it to be. Though I might download the whole thing anyway, just to view on a rainy day.

Have you not seen the Arakawa live? Probably the best live action adaptation ever made.
