These are actually Dekinai's subtitles which were based on UTW. Similarly to my own subtitles, Dekinai also supplemented the extended scenes with R1 subs as well as utilized Lope's VN translations for the incantations in a few episodes (although he included them in an alternate subtitle track and I did not; I haven't checked to see which version kuchi opted to utilize though). However Dekinai used Hatsuyuki's karaoke which was like 40MB per subtitle track (so over 80MB of subs per episode) and they had a rendering issue with the first half of the show which caused them to flicker really annoyingly on some setups (check Nyaa ID #810754 for more info). As for the ~sunny day~ special... I believe this utilizes the subtitles from me and simply restyled or at least that's what it says on aB; I think it could be animeisdead's subtitles though which would make sense since that is what Dekinai used for their release of the special. And of course the lossy audio. So pretty much the only aspect that "might" be better than the current accepted release imo would be the video, but that remains to be seen with proper comparisons.

This does have 40MB of fonts, doesn't it?  Hmmm... and from what I can tell the four 8MB fonts aren't even being used.
I may go through this and pull the unused fonts.

E: Actually your Songs used one of the 8MB ones.  Not anymore.
E2: Second season didn't have a problem, so only 400MB saved.

He debi'd the video so that the chroma and luma were same res, and then upscaled both to 1080p. He made it 4:4:4 so that nothing gets downscaled again.
(Am I right?)

What? When you use debiliear you do it only over the luma and then you can upscale it back to 1080p and merge it with the unmodified 540p chroma or upscale the chroma from 540p-> said resolution and make it 4:4:4 (in order to avoid downscaling below 540p). These debilinear 4:4:4 scrips are just luma debilinear + chroma upscale

According to the raw torrent in nyaa it states that chroma is 'restored', but I fail to see any difference with madVR upscale (and it definitely draws less power than decoding additional 3110400 pixels per frame)

That's exactly what I said.

If the chroma was restored, that would seem to imply something like ChromaReconstructor (or something more practical) was used, but it could just be that the encoder converted to YV24 before denoising (i.e. with BM3D) and debanding, and thought it a waste to convert back to YV12

Why AAC audio for both tracks?

Kuchikirukia, what did you do about extra scenes in terms of subs? Also kametsu adapted the incantations to match the VN translation, I assume you just kept the original UTW TL?

I sure hope so. VN Translators are notoriously horrible

Like I mentioned in the first comment, the subtitles used in this release are Dekinai's edit (which utilized Hatsuyuki's kfx for some of the songs). As for the extra scenes, they also were taken from the R1 subs. As for the incantations, Dekinai offered both options, but it's simply unknown which option kuchi utilized here because he took them from the little-baka's remux offered on aB which didn't mention which they utilized. That said, there was iirc, only two episodes in the entire batch that this would actually affect. Call it bias, but I personally feel like the Kametsu release has the better overall package (audio and subs; I gotta have that lossless audio with my ten-eighty-pee xD), but the little-baka's video encode this release uses might be slightly better on some scenes here or there, due to some faulty filtering on salender's behalf.
