I see several reasons to deny/accept either or both the release from COR (Citadel of the Raven) and A-T (anime-takeover). I have not been able to find any version of the only other viable release and that would be the one by Blitz. I have included their statistics from AniDB in the comparisons below. If anyone has the Blitz version and could provide some screen shots it would be appreciated.

The following quote is taken from AniDB, from I assume BBT’s Zalis116. (Although it wouldn’t be the first time, if I’m wrong) It was made on Jan. 3, 2009 regarding the anime-takeover release.

» darkmongo
Really bad translation, most sentences had nothing to do with what the character actually said. I had a lot of trouble understanding this anime with those subtitles, so after a while I stopped reading them at all.
Blame ADV, not anime-takeover. All the other rips will have the same subtitles anyway. But darkmongo is right, these subtitles are on the "liberal" end of the spectrum, even where they don`t need to be.

This release, while less than ideal, is still the best release if you want the English audio...the others appear to drop the secondary songs/signs subtitle track, which is a problem given all the onscreen text in this series. Unfortunately, what a-t did was take the songs/signs track and hardsub it exactly as it looks on the DVDs, while taking the text and songs out of the main .srt track to avoid duplication. So it works for the English track, but some lines are missing from the main subs during scenes with text and dialogue at the same time. So if you just want the Japanese track, you might want to go with COR as they preserved the DVD subtitle formatting as-is without converting to .ass/.srt or losing any lines. If only COR had muxed in the secondary track as well, then that would be the ideal release for both languages.

The spoiler below contains comparisons and spoilers.

My personal preference is the COR video and the A-T subs. On the first set of pictures even going frame by frame I could never get more of the bunny ears that are on the bunny tail of that bunny eared fairy thingy (Delmo) to show.

Do Not Judge The Following For Video Quality!

Signs

http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/7489/corsigns03.th.jpg   http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/2871/atsigns03.th.jpg

These pictures were taken for both releases with the English Dub and the subs turned off. COR’s release does have these signs in their subtitles but if you wanted to listen in English you would have to also have the subtitles on in order to get the signs translated. With the A-T release you can still listen in English and get the signs.

Walls of Text and Differentiation

http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/5964/cortext02.th.jpg   http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/8239/attext02.th.jpg

While COR also has large walls of text like A-T, they tend to have fewer, fewer lines, and don’t stay on the screen as long. While COR doesn’t differentiate the color of the text to the individual, they do alternate colors when there is more than one person speaking at once, A-T does not. On the second set of pictures they are slightly different because I was trying to get as big a wall of text as possible for the COR release.

Text Placement

http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/4471/cortext04.th.jpg   http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/9489/attext04.th.jpg

Here I think it is a toss up, in the first pic COR’s text placement definitely messes up my view, where A-T does not. In the second pic COR’s text is easily visible, while A-T’s text gets a little lost in the podium.

Signs and Speech

http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/8006/cortext05.th.jpg  http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/760/cortext06.th.jpg  http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/4348/cortext07.th.jpg  http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/7184/cortext08.th.jpg  http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/3373/cortext10.th.jpg

Anime-Takeover
http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/1907/attext05.th.jpg   http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/9302/attext06.th.jpg  http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/2306/attext07.th.jpg  http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/5555/attext09.th.jpg

Here the problem is that A-T leaves out the spoken translation altogether when the screen is focused on a sign. In the first pic the little rabbit eared fairy thingy (Delmo) is yelling "Come here!" etc., which is clear in the COR release but is never translated in the A-T release. In the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th COR pictures you can see that there are a couple of lines that are translated but they are never seen in the A-T release (Which leaves out vital information). This doesn’t happen in every instance as can be seen in the final picture of each group.

Typo?

http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/9594/cortext09.th.jpg   http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/8223/attext08.th.jpg

Here I don’t know what happened. The COR pic looks OK but what is up with the A-T pic? Are the two capitalized W’s meant as a joke, a pattern of speech, an allusion that the cosplay battle will be like a World War, or just a typo?

Specials

The special that Anime-Takeover did and Citadel of the Raven did not is an approximately 5 min. picture video that lists who all the various Cosplayed characters are, that are seen throughout the OVA.  Which I thought was a nice little bonus special.

So when all is said and done I feel that both releases have their advantages and disadvantages. As stated in the quote above I think that the best Dub release is by Anime-Takeover, while those who would rather have a sub release should go with Citadel of the Raven. Being an H264 release COR could fill a slot in the B group while the A-T XviD could take up the spot in the C Group, or it could go the other way around as the A-T release would be the primary Dual Audio and COR would just be an H264 that is in the C Group.

I’ll leave that decision up to everyone else and the Mods.  :-)

Just put the A-T specials into the COR torrent and use that as the COR obviously looks better,  VOBSUBS if you really hate them so much then you can extract the subs from A-T and include them as an attachment for the COR aswell, plus I think the best dub version is the one with 5.1 audio which is COR so extract the subs and throw in the specials and you got yourself a deal for most people, or atleast that is my opinion

I agree with that. Although one is crappy X(it)viD and the other is h264, meaning both can be accepted, the special should be added to the COR offer for completeness (and so people wanting COR + special don't need to get just that from A-T).

Extracting the subs and putting them as an attachment on COR could be nice for people interested too.

The problem is when you extract the subs from A-T and add them to the COR release you lose all of the hard subbed signs, and there are a lot of sings in this OVA.  :-/

Yeah, that is my comment from AniDB. A shame this release is such a mess, and that COR doesn't include secondary subs. Kind of silly since they're already using vobsubs, and it would take like zero effort to mux in the other track too

I've been thinking about doing was DLing COR's release, OCRing the subs, re-typesetting them, and creating main and secondary .ass files from there. But that'll take awhile, and I have no idea when I'll get to it. So for now, this a-t release remains the best option for dub watchers, at least as far as subtitles are concerned.

Oh yeah, I realise that, which is why it would be just an extra attachment, no remuxing or anything messing with the original file at all. Just an additional option for people who want it/don't like vobsubs/don't care about the signs anyways.

Oh come on we all know you have no life outside of BakaBT, let alone the internet, and that you secretly don't even like anime.

Actually I would love to see it and would definitely check it out if/when you get it done.

Basically that's why I did this offer as well. The video quality isn't that bad. If the Mods want me to do it, I can.

What I definitely would like to do, if the Mods OK'd it, would be to add the A-T special to the COR offer.  ;-)

Hmm.. that's fine. Add the special.

Does anyone know of a decent font to use for IE 8? I always use FF but I check my torrents in other browsers (Usually Opera, Safari, and Internet Explorer). My Links to AniDB, Anime-Planet, and ANN look fine in everyone of them, except IE (It looks OK when it's highlighted).

I'm not going to kill myself over it, but it bugs me. I've tried both; Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif and Cambria, Times New Roman, serif. As you can see below it's acceptable, but it looks like it's been chewed on.
